About the Birthday Buddies Program
Negative experiences in childhood and the teenage years put children at risk for chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance abuse in adulthood. These negative experiences are called adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). ACEs included experiencing violence, abuse, or neglect; witnessing violence in the home or community; or growing up in a household with substance use problems, mental health problems, or instability due to parental separation or household members being in jail or prison.
Birthday Buddies believes in the simple, yet powerful, gesture of a birthday gift for a child. Birthdays remember, acknowledge, and appreciate the life of a person and spark joy when that person is celebrated. You can help a child know they are seen and loved on their special day when he/she would otherwise not receive a gift due to his/her circumstances.
